My name is Halston Williams, and I am the creator behind Nimble Fern. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon. As a child living in both Southeast and Northeast Portland I was exposed to two different ways of living in the same city. With my father being an artist, growing up I spent time painting and drawing watercolors with him. My dedication to my craft started young. Aging into elementary and participating in local competitions and programs throughout my adolescence, art continued to be a defining part of who I am down to my core. As a bi-racial individual I learned at a young age what it feels like to be treated as an outsider, but with my art firmly in grasp I have always had something that drew me back in and make me feel connected and accepted. I want others to be able to feel that same acceptance.
My passion for creativity and the pacific northwest fuels my art and dedication to this project. With family always at the core, I came up with the name “Nimble Fern” by sitting down with my family and finding a name that defines who we are and what we stand for. Nimble Fern represents family, peace and hope for future generations. If I have learned anything, it’s that art brings people together. Whether it be music, food, or graphics. And I’m honored to be a part of that.
It has been an amazing journey watching Nimble Fern come to life over these past two years. And much like the pacific northwest I love so much, it continues to grow and evolve. Please feel free to email me with any questions, comments, or feedback at the email below.
